How To Clarify Where You Are With One Powerful Question

31st floor. Downtown Los Angeles. Leather briefcase at my feet…“There’s got to be more than this…WHAT ELSE is out there?”

These were a few of the questions I started asking myself about 9 months in to my first proper job post graduation.

I’d entered the world of Finance long enough to realize I didn’t want to stay. I didn’t want to be “stuck” behind a stack of papers in an icy office for the next 40 years…

It wasn’t that I disliked the work or the people I was working with. I was simply curious about what other opportunities were out there. What was next for me.

To make matters worse, working with other people’s money was taking more energy than it was giving. You could say that the bad had started to outweigh the good…

Granted, this was at the beginning of my career journey – I didn’t have a lot to lose. Nevertheless, it took a lot of courage to do what I did next (see video below).

What about you? Do you ever feel stuck in your current job? Or like you’re ready for something new – new job role, new company, new profession?

If you’re not sure how you feel, ask yourself this 1 SIMPLE QUESTION:

At the end of the day, do I feel energized or depleted?

This question will tell you how you feel about your current work situation.

Whatever your work entails, you’ve got to have the energy for it. If you don’t, you’re running straight for a wall…and fast.

Over my 25 year career, I have managed to successfully pivot on four different occasions.

I know what job dissatisfaction feels like. I’ve been there.

I also know how scary it is to leave something comfortable and safe. I’ve been there too.

Most of all, I know how good it feels to move away from work you don’t enjoy and start doing something that fires you up.

Here are 3 things that helped me make my first career pivot 24 years ago:

Incidentally, I managed to successfully pivot on three more occasions after this one – ones where I did have something to lose.
